Ever thought of Sleep directions? 

-I realized, that it does matter.!!!

I used to say -

 This is rubbish.  This is childish. Direction doesn’t matter while sleeping. 


Yes, I never believed that sleep directions do matter. I thought this was all baseless. One fine day, all of a sudden, I came across a post which read - 


Which Direction Do You Sleep In? According to Ayurveda, It Matters

This is what it says:-

NORTH : Head Towards North - Worst Sleeping Direction - Increases Sickness & Sleep Deprivation

EAST : Head Towards East - Good Sleeping Direction - For Students Increases Memory & Concentration.

WEST : Head Towards West - Good Sleeping Direction - Gives Name, Fame & Prosperity.

SOUTH : Head Towards South - Good Sleeping Direction - Increases Wealth, Happiness & Prosperity


and you know what, I used to sleep in the exact NORTH facing direction. GOSH!!!



I was not sick though, but yes, always sleep deprived and sleepy drowsy all day, heavy head every single morning. I used to wonder, whats wrong, am I having sleeping as many hours?




I used to sleep anywhere between 11 in the night and 7 in the morning. That's like 8 hrs of sleep for a 30 year old young adult, and that's pretty decent. Then what is the problem..

So after reading about it a bit, I said, lets try SOUTH. I did not rotate my bed, but instead, what I did is just changed my direction on the bed, for the first time.

I slept, facing SOUTH, for the first time, with SOUTH in mind, I slept facing SOUTH. And you know what, no noticeable change or feeling...

Now that I have this in mind that I sleep in a direction, NORTH in my case, which for sure is the worst direction one can sleep in, I mean, from all the content I read from, each one has specifically mentioned NORTH as the worst direction, I started experimenting and researching more.

Imagine, a person like me, who never believes in something that's not practical, is researching which direction to sleep in. Hilarious and strange at the same time. People know me are smiling. People who are practical thinking like me also trying to smile...

All of us need to read till the end to know that Sleep directions matter...


I came across colleagues like these: -

Mr J : Sleep any how you feel comfortable in. Don't lose sleep over which way to face before taking a nap.
Let me tell you a story.
There was once a family that had a lot of cats with them. So when there was some religious ceremony at their house the cats would cause a lot of problem. So the head of the family took baskets and used them to trap the cats during the rituals. The kids saw this and when they grew up they too would trap the cats before the rituals. Now several generations later all the cats ... Blah blah..
Mr M : Sleep is an important aspect of good health. In order to enjoy sound sleep, one must have a bedroom with a peaceful environment. Sleeping in the wrong direction can also cause health problems. While sleeping your head must be placed towards the EAST for undisturbed sleep. The second best sleeping direction is with the head towards the south,People who observe these directions will receive positive energy when they wake up. These positions will also enhance the person's blood circulation.
etc etc... Those names are of real people and so all of them with their own stories and theories..

So EAST OR SOUTH??

I even got an activity tracker that can track my sleep. Funny but true. This is what it said..







 Pheeeww!!! After this I almost gave up on this...



Until, on a random weekend, when all I wanted to do,was sleeeeeeeeppp... Yeah, many of us want do this. We then do crib that the whole weekend got over, and all I did is sleep all day. One sec, and you feel heavy headed and drowsy after that too??.. Yes, I do.

Yep, coming back to this weekend, I just casually, put my pillow on to the other side (remember my bed was in exact NORTH-SOUTH direction) of my bed and slept. No SOUTH direction in mind. No expectations. No intentions. And booom, what a morning. Believe me, I was so fresh, so energetic and up early morning. It was a week-off. Nothing to do. No plans. No outings, Nothing at all. Because, for me this weekend was, SLEEEEEPPP..

I continued sleeping in SOUTH direction every night, then on. Once went back to my activity tracker to see what my sleep was like. This is what it  had to say :





I don't know if you did notice the difference in my activity tracker's readings; surely you didn't..

  • While sleeping in NORTH direction, I had long hours of sleep, longer deep sleep, a good Sleep score ( 84, 85, 89), and heavy head, drowsy and sleepy all day.
  • On the other hand, when I slept SOUTH facing, my activity tracker gave me a lowers sleep score (77, 78, 82), the deep sleep hours was pretty less, but amazingly energetic every morning. No more heavy head. No more drowsiness. And all this with the same hours of sleep.
Trust me, the activity tracker isn't bothered how you feel. It's a 2019 made tracker. Numbers is all it counts.

There's surely something with the direction you sleep, with the earth's magnetic field and you. People who know me are surprised seeing me telling others to believe in such a thing, because I never believe in anything so easily and surely not in such theories at least...

Check what you are up to...

Here's a small to-do list to get you on-board.

    1. Get a compass app for your phone. 

There are a plenty of apps for phones, that will let you know NORTH-SOUTH-EAST-WEST directions. Try this out and do let all of us know how you feel...

  2. Find out your current direction.

Place your phone parallel to your bed, just as if its the phone sleeping in your place(silly but this way helps a few). There you go. The compass pointer shows you where you head points. Hope its not as bad as me, pointing exact NORTH.


   3. Adjust yourself, change directions for good, real gooood...

If its bad or if you are looking out for some improvements, you can change the direction you were currently sleeping in. One thing to keep in mind, when you change your direction, you need a weeks time for the results to be prominent.
